How lung age is calculated
Lung age was introduced by Morris and Temple (1985) as a way to make spirometry results meaningful to patients. The concept: your FEV1 (the volume of air you can forcibly exhale in one second) is compared to population reference values. If your FEV1 matches the predicted value for a 55-year-old but you're 40, your lung age is approximately 55.

A clinical spirometry test with a trained technician is necessary for reliable FEV1 measurement. Self-reported values and proxy scores are approximations only.
