Note: Growth rates vary significantly with soil quality, climate, competition, and available water. This is an estimate, not a precise count. Dendrochronology (ring counting) is the only reliable method for exact tree age.

How tree age is estimated from trunk size

The standard method used by arborists and urban foresters is the "growth factor" method: measure the trunk circumference at breast height (4.5 feet / 1.4 m from the ground), calculate diameter (circumference รท ฯ€), then multiply by the species-specific growth factor.
